If you are looking for the most capable pickup in its class, then you need to turn your attention to the brand new 2022 Jeep Gladiator lineup. Compared to the Ford Ranger, it is clear which truck reigns supreme in terms of power.
First, take a quick peek under the hood of the Ford Ranger. Every trim level is equipped with the same 2.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder motor. Paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and your choice of RWD or 4WD, it delivers 270 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. This means that it can only pull up to 1,587 kg (3,500 lbs) of weight.
However, the Jeep Gladiator can be fitted with one of two engines. Both are partnered with the Command- or Rock-Trac 4x4 system and your choice of a 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic transmission. The standard powertrain is a 3.6-litre V6 that makes 285 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. You can also get the 3.0-litre turbocharged diesel V6 that produces 260 hp and a staggering 442 lb-ft of torque. This put the towing range around 2,040 and 2,948 kg (4,500 and 6,500 lbs).
