2023 Ram 3500 – Engine and Payload in BC

March 31,2023

The 2023 Ram 3500 is available with a choice between a powerful diesel engine and a powerful gas engine. Conventional pickups have a 6.4-liter gas V-8 mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission that can send the truck's 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels alone or all four. When you look at the numbers, you'll see why the diesel engine is worth the extra cost. If you won't be pushing the 3500 to its limits, you can get by with the base diesel that makes 850 lb-ft of torque and 370 horsepower, and is also offered in the Ram 2500. The high-output version, available only in the 3500, generates an incredible 420 horsepower and 1,075(!) lb-ft of torque, making it the most powerful heavy-duty engine. The diesels use a six-speed automatic transmission. Both the maximum towing capacity and payload of the Ram 3500 and the high-output diesel can cause a stir. The maximum trailer weight for a conventional cab long bed equipped with the more powerful diesel and RWD is 37,090 pounds. The maximum payload for that same combination with the 6.4-liter gas V-8 is 7,680 pounds. To determine if the 2023 Ram 3500 is the right choice for you, please get in touch with us at Cranbrook Dodge.
